The argument has been going on for sometime now on who is better between the two. Both have won 11 ballon D’ors between them, hold the record for most goals for Barcelona and Real Madrid, and won an international trophy for their respective countries.
Whereas Ronaldo has played across four countries in a career that has seen him win the league in England, Spain and Italy, Messi on the other hand has enjoyed a better part of his career playing for Barcelona where he won 35 trophies.
With both heading towards the twilight of their career, Messi’s shock exit from Barcelona shook the world as was Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United.
Messi is yet to hit the ground running at his new club-after only making one substitute appearance and two starts since his move to PSG. Ronaldo though has scored four goals in three appearances on his second return to Manchester United.
Ronaldo’s two goals for Portugal in September took him above everyone for the most goals in men’s football. The 36- year old also holds the record for the most goals in the Uefa Champions League, and he is widely regarded by many as the greatest footballer in the history of football.
The Portuguese has transformed from a tricky winger when he burst unto the scenes to the most potent goal scorer in the modern game.
The former Real Madrid forward has scored 787 goals in 21 years playing top flight football- which translates into a whopping 37 goals a season.
Ronaldo is also the only player to win the league and the Golden boot in England, Spain and Italy.
With his 37th birthday approaching, he is not showing any signs of slowing down.
For many though, Messi is the greatest. He’s won six ballon D’ors, won 35 trophies with Barcelona, and most recently the much elusive International trophy.
His staggering 91 goals in a single season is the most goals scored by any player in a season.
The 34-year old style of play for many, is easy in the eye and the reason he is widely regarded by many as the greatest footballer of all-time.
