Maritzburg United have appeared to move to play down claims that they have made an offer for Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Felix Annan.
Reports in Ghana over the weekend suggested that Maritzburg United had Annan in their sights should in case current number one goalkeeper Richard Ofori leaves the club for Orlando Pirates.
But Maritzburg chairman Farouk Kadodia has categorically rejected any speculation that the Kotoko goalkeeper is on their radar.
“No, I don’t know where the story is coming from. We’ve had no talks with the player concerned, and we still have Ofori on our books until somebody else comes to us with an offer to buy him,” he told the Siya crew.
“It’s no secret that Ofori, who is Ghana’s first choice goalkeeper, is in demand, with Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns said to be keen signing him next season.”
“He is still contracted to the Team Of Choice until June 2021 after the club exercised the option they had on top of his initial three-year deal.”
“There’s no concrete offer for Ofori, so there’s no need for us to go and buy a goalkeeper. I don’t know whether the agents are creating stories because we have definitely not spoken to anybody. Maybe they are trying to find a new club for the guy,” said Kadodia.
