Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies defeated Nigeria’s Rivers Angels 3-1 on Thursday night to be champions of the Wafu B qualifying tournament for the maiden Caf Women’s Champions League.
Veronica Appiah, Perpetual Agyekum, and Azumah Abugre scored to complete the Pay back job for the 4-time Ghana champions while Vivian Ikechukwu grabbed the consolation for the 7-time Nigerian champions at Stade Robert Champroux in Ivorian capital Abidjan.
The first encounter between the 2 sides ended 2-0 in favor of the 7-time Nigerian Champions in Group B opener
Both teams already booked qualification for the first-ever Caf Women’s Champions League to be played in Egypt later this year by reaching the finals.
In under three minutes Veronica Appiah gave the Hasmal Ladies a lead, pouncing on a defensive error for the opener.
Ikechukwu on the 9th minute equalized for River Angels after a similar defensive mishap from Hasaacas Ladies,an error to clear a setpiece was quickly pounced on the opportunity
Perpetual Agyekum scored straight from a free-kick about 30 yards out in the 41st minute. Rivers Angels goalkeeper Whyte Ibubeleye failed in her attempt to push the ball over the bar and it dipped in time to enter the net.
Rivers Angels who have not lost in their three games in the competition prior to the final were down by two goals to one at the break.
Azumah Bugre put the game beyond the reach of Rivers Angels with Hasaacas’ third of the game three minutes to the hour mark. Bugre scored from outside the box with a ferocious shot to make it 3-1.
This marks Hasaacas Ladies triple season after winning both the FA Cup and Women’s league
